Companion of MERS patient tests negative for virus

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The female companion of the foreign Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) patient confined at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) tested negative for the virus.

The good news was affirmed by Department of Health Spokesperson Lyndon Lee-Suy on Tuesday (July 7).

The woman has been confined at the RITM since Saturday (July 4) after she showed symptoms of MERS.

The male foreigner, on the other hand, tested positive for MERS-CoV on Monday (July 6). He traveled to Saudi and Dubai prior to arriving in the Philippines.
