Dwyane Wade stays in Miami

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — National Basketball Association (NBA) star Dwyane Wade has spent 12 years in Miami, and it looks like he is set for at least one more year with the Heat organization.

On Friday (July 3 PHT), Wade accepted a $20 million deal for one more year with the Heat.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Wade shared how much he felt the love of the fans on social media.

“I can’t tell you how much I appreciated what they all said,” Wade said.

Last season, Wade averaged 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists for the Heat as they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Prior to making this deal, Wade turned down $16.1million as he opted out of his two-year contract.

Wade’s agent Henry Thomas believes that Wade’s decision to re-sign with the Heat under the new terms benefits both parties.

“This contract is a win-win for both Dwyane and the Heat,” said Thomas. “Not only does Dwyane get to extend his Hall of Fame-worthy career with the only franchise for whom he has ever played, but he will have the flexibility next summer to sign an additional deal.”

Wade rejoins teammate Chris Bosh, who missed majority of last season with a blood clot in his lung, on the Heat roster as they try to improve on their 37-45 record.

If the Heat stay healthy this year, Wade fancies his team’s chances in the league.

“We’re going to be better. I know that,” Wade said. “Knock on wood, you stay healthy, I think we’re a good team. I like our chances.”
