
(CNN Philippines) — Seven areas in the Philippines are now under Storm Signal No. 1 as Typhoon Dodong (international name: Noul) got nearer, according to the bulletin issued at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (May 8) by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
One of the areas is the province of Northern Samar in the Visayas.
The other six areas are in Luzon, namely:
Catanduanes
Camarines Norte
Camarines Sur
Albay
Sorsogon
Polilio Island
As of 10:00 a.m, PAGASA estimated Dodong to at 480 km east-northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar.
Traveling west-northwest at 17 kph, Dodong had maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center, with a gustiness of up to 185 kph.

The estimated rainfall within the 300-km diameter of the typhoon will be heavy to intense.
Areas under Storm Signal No. 1 can expect intermittent rains and winds blowing at 30 to 60 kph in at least 36 hours.
The winds can have the following effects:
Very light or no damage to high risk structures.
Light damage to medium to low risk structures.
Slight damage to some houses of very light materials or makeshift structures in exposed communities.
Banana plants may be tilted and some may fall down. Leaves will be damaged.
Twigs of small trees may be broken.
Rice crops in the flowering stage may be damaged significantly.
PAGASA forecast the following positions of Dodong:
In 24 hours, by the morning of Saturday (May 9): 250 km east of Virac, Catanduanes.
In 48 hours, by the morning of Sunday (May 10): vicinity of Isabela, Cagayan.
In 72 hours, by the morning of Monday (May 11): 100 km north-northeast of Basco, Batanes
