(CNN Philippines) — The Philippine National Railways (PNR) temporarily suspended its operations from Tutuban Station up to Calamba Station on Tuesday (May 5) to make way for the safety inspection of its trains and tracks.
PNR officials made the announcement of the temporary closure on Monday (May 4).
The suspension began at 5:30 a.m.
Some commuters who were unaware of the suspended operations said they would now be forced to look for alternative modes of transportation to reach their destinations which, according to them, would be more costly and less time efficient.

PNR spokesman Paul de Quiros said operations would resume as soon as its tracks are certified safe.
He said the inspection was prompted by the recent derailment of one of its trains last April 29 along the Skyway Magallanes exit.
