Every third Sunday of June, we take time to honor our fathers and the love, care, and sacrifices they’ve made for their children. To mark the occasion, we’ve rounded up five Filipino films that not only celebrate different kinds of dads, but also capture the many complexities of fatherhood through a Filipino lens.
Here are five Pinoy films about dads and fatherhood that just might make you appreciate your dad a little bit more:
1. Isusumbong Kita sa Tatay Ko
This 1999 action-comedy stars two Philipine showbiz icons as father and daughter – the late Fernando Poe Jr. and Judy Ann Santos. FPJ plays Badong, a single dad devoted to raising his only daughter, Joey. The two are very close, but when Badong falls for a new woman, making Joey fear she’s losing her dad. The rapport between the two stars is both charming and sincere, making this a memorable story about single parenthood and growing pains—with a little old-school FPJ action thrown in.

This tearjerker, a remake of the beloved Korean film, is a moving tale of innocence, injustice, and a father’s unwavering love.
5. Seven Sundays
