Mapua to open title defense bid vs Lyceum in NCAA Season 101
Metro Manila, Philippines - The NCAA Season 101 men's basketball tournament will begin on Oct. 1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, with last year's Final Four teams clashing on the opening day.
Host school and reigning champion Mapua will open its title defense bid against Lyceum at 2:30 p.m., following the opening ceremonies at 11 a.m., while Season 100 runner-up College of St. Benilde (CSB) battle perennial powerhouse San Beda at 5 p.m.
The NCAA is introducing a new format in the upcoming season as the 10 squads are divided into two groups.
Mapua will banner Group A alongside Lyceum, University of Perpetual Help, San Sebastian, and Arellano University.
Meanwhile, Group B is composed of CSB, San Beda, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Jose Rizal University, and Emilio Aguinaldo College.
The top three teams from each group will advance to the crossover quarterfinals, with the two best teams earning the twice-to-beat bonuses.
On the other hand, the bottom two schools will duke it out in a play-in match for the last playoff berth.
