Metro Manila, Philippines - A tropical depression would not impact the country as it was expected to move farther, while a stronger weather disturbance is under close monitoring, the weather bureau said on Friday, Aug. 8.

Tropical Depression Fabian stayed on the fringes and is about to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) - a weather tracking area for tropical cyclones - on Friday night, Aug. 8, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in a 5 p.m. bulletin.

It said Fabian was 245 kilometers west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte and moving west northwestward, with center winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 55 kph.

There are no storm alerts.

Possible typhoon

Meanwhile, PAGASA is also monitoring Tropical Storm Podul, another weather disturbance outside PAR.

Based on the bureau's forecast, Podul may intensify into a typhoon before it enters or upon entering the country’s monitoring zone.

It is expected to enter PAR by Sunday or Monday.
