Death toll rises to 25 amid three consecutive storms
Metro Manila, Philippines - At least 25 people were reported dead after a string of storms barreled through the Philippines in over a week, disaster officials said Friday, July 25.
In its latest report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said it has confirmed three deaths, each from Central Luzon, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.
The NDRRMC said it is validating 22 other deaths: nine fatalities in Metro Manila, three each in Calabarzon and Negros Island Region, two in Northern Mindanao, and one each in Mimaropa and Davao region.
The agency said eight individuals were hurt and eight others remain missing.
Around 3.8 million Filipinos across 17 regions have been affected by tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong.
The three weather disturbances also strengthened the southwest monsoon or habagat, and have triggered heavy rains and massive flooding.
The government has provided around P232 million worth of humanitarian assistance.
Eighty-four areas in the country have declared a state of calamity to access their disaster funds.
The country has incurred nearly P4 billion worth of infrastructure damage and another P281 million worth of damage to the National Irrigation Administration's infrastructure.
The NDRRMC said agricultural damage was at least P366 million.
