Marcos offers sympathies to US as deadly floods hit Texas
Metro Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has extended his sympathies to US President Donald Trump and the American people in light of the deadly and widespread flooding that has devastated parts of Texas, displacing thousands and prompting federal emergency declarations.
In a statement released Wednesday, Marcos said the Philippines stands in solidarity with the US during this difficult time and expressed hope for a swift recovery for affected communities.
“On behalf of the Filipino people, I extend our deepest sympathies to President Trump and the American people as they face the devastating floods in Texas,” Marcos said.
“The Philippines knows the challenges of rebuilding after disaster and grieves with the families who have lost loved ones. We stand with the United States in prayer and solidarity during this difficult time.
“We have faith that the strength and resilience of the people of Texas, together with President Trump’s leadership, will guide them as they recover,” he added.
Rising toll in Texas
Record-breaking rainfall across Texas in recent days has led to catastrophic flooding, submerging roads, washing away homes, and forcing tens of thousands to evacuate.
The US National Weather Service has reported rainfall totals of over 20 inches in some areas, particularly in Houston, Austin, and surrounding regions.
Local authorities have confirmed at least dozens of fatalities and hundreds of injuries, with many communities still unreachable due to rising waters and infrastructure damage.
Texas is home to one of the largest Filipino-American populations in the US at over 200,000.
