Marcos to DOTr: Demolish, replace ‘Mt. Kamuning’ footbridge
Metro Manila, Philippines - President Bongbong Marcos ordered the transportation department on Wednesday, June 4, to demolish the so-called “Mt. Kamuning” footbridge in Quezon City for being too steep, and replace it with a better pathway.
The agency confirmed this in a press statement, saying the footbridge makes it difficult for senior citizens and persons with disabilities to access the footbridge.
“Sinabi sa akin ng Pangulo (the president told me) 'we have to tear it down and build a better one.' And I think that is really the essence of what he wants to do,” said Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
The DOTr said it plans to replace the footbridge with a less steep pathway, with construction expected within the year.
The agency added it aims to install elevators and connect it to the EDSA busway stop in Kamuning.
Marcos personally visited the Kamuning MRT station on Sunday, June 1.
“Malinaw naman ang utos ng Pangulo na gawing mas convenient ang facilities natin para sa pedestrians at commuters. At ‘yan ang gagawin natin, sisiguruhin natin na ‘yung ipapalit na overpass ay mas madali para sa mga kakabayan natin,” Dizon said.
