Palaro standout swimmer bags first gold in Southeast Asia age group champs
Metro Manila, Philippines - Young swimming ace TJ Amaro took home the country’s first gold medal in the 47th Southeast Asian Age Group Aquatics Championships after dominating the 50-meter butterfly event at the WCH Arena in Singapore on Thursday, June 26.
Amaro placed first with a 25.15-second swim in the 50m Butterfly for the 16- to 18-year-old bracket.
Indonesia’s Jason Donovan Yusuf settled for silver, finishing only a hair's width behind Amaro at 25.16 seconds.
Tedd Windsor Chan from Singapore bagged bronze with 25.23 seconds.
Amaro’s gold was his second medal in the international tilt after winning bronze in the 100m Butterfly race during the events on June 25.
Amaro was hailed as the Most Bemedalled athlete of the Palarong Pambansa 2024 for his medal haul of seven gold medals in several swimming events.
