PH urges diplomacy amid conflict in the Middle East
Metro Manila, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) urged parties involved in the escalating conflict in the Middle East to apply diplomacy in resolving the crisis.
In a statement on Sunday, June 22, the agency said it is “greatly concerned” over the developments in the region, shortly after the United States bombed key nuclear sites in Iran.
“We strongly urge concerned parties to take the path of diplomacy and avoid further escalation of this conflict that could threaten regional and international peace and security,” DFA said.
The agency added that it will prioritize the protection of Filipinos affected by the conflict.
DFA said it is ready to provide assistance to Filipinos in their jurisdiction.
At least 30 overseas Filipino workers are expected to arrive in the Philippines on June 24 after seeking voluntary repatriation, according to the Department of Migrant Workers.
Israel and Iran have traded strikes against each other since the former launched attacks on June 13, “to prevent Tehran from building an atomic weapon.”
