Taal Volcano logs minor phreatic eruption
Metro Manila, Philippines - A steam-driven eruption occurred at the Taal Volcano in Batangas on Thursday night, May 29, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the minor phreatic eruption at the Taal Volcano Island’s main crater lasted for four minutes from 9:18 p.m. to 9:22 p.m.
The volcano emitted a 1.5 kilometer-high plume that drifted northeast.
On Thursday, Phivolcs also recorded four volcanic tremors and a sulfur dioxide flux of 3,057 tons per day.
The agency said Alert Level 1 or “low-level unrest” prevails over Taal Volcano.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council told nearby residents to follow advisories of local authorities following the eruption.
