Magnitude 4.6 earthquake jolts Quezon, felt in parts of Luzon
Metro Manila, Philippines - A magnitude 4.6 earthquake jolted General Nakar in Quezon Province on Tuesday, May 27, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
Phivolcs initially logged the tremor at magnitude 5.1 before it was downgraded.
The tectonic quake, generated by a fault along Sierra Madre, hit 24 kilometers northwest of General Nakar at 12:17 p.m. The tremor had a 10-kilometer depth of focus.
Intensity 4 was felt over General Nakar, Makati, Manila, Marikina, San Pedro in Laguna, and Tanay in Rizal.
Other parts of Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Tarlac also felt the tremor, prompting immediate evacuation in buildings, including the Malacañang Palace and Senate.
Phivolcs said that damage and aftershocks are expected.
