Two people were killed in the deadly crash at the NAIA Terminal 1 on May 4.

Metro Manila, Philippines - The license of the driver behind the fatal car crash at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was revoked for four years, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said on Friday, May 23.

In a statement, the LTO said the driver was found guilty for reckless driving, facing license revocation and a P2,000 fine.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said the penalty against the driver is the maximum punishment under the law.

Two people were killed, including a 4-year-old child, after the driver stepped on the accelerator of his sports utility vehicle and crashed into the entrance of the departure area at the NAIA Terminal 1.

The agency said the driver did not submit any statement to defend himself on charges for reckless driving.

“Driving is not a right but a privilege that can be revoked anytime in cases of violations of the existing laws and road safety rules and regulations,” it said in a statement.

The SUV driver was earlier allowed to post a P100,00 bail for complaint on reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.

On Friday, May 23, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the agency will assist the families of victims in filing a civil complaint for damages against the driver.
