(Reuters) - China's vice-foreign minister Sun Weidong met on Tuesday with Pakistan's ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi to discuss tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi, a statement from his ministry said on Wednesday.

Sun said "China welcomes and supports Pakistan and India achieving a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire", the statement said. "China is ready to continue to play a constructive role in this regard," it added.
