Metro Manila, Philippines - Incumbent Mayor Francis Zamora was proclaimed for his third and last term as San Juan mayor early Tuesday, May 13, winning against a close Ejercito-Estrada ally who took a shot at his post.

“Kami po ay lubos na nagpapasalamat sa muli po ninyong pagbibigay ng mahal, suporta, at pagtitiwala,” Zamora said in a video posted after his proclamation.

[Translation: We are very grateful for your continued love, support, and trust.]

Zamora won against Philip Cezar, a former vice mayor who served San Juan from 1992 to 2001.

Cezar was also acting mayor of San Juan for two months when then-mayor Jinggoy Estrada was arrested in 2001 on charges of plunder.

Zamora’s win as mayor in 2019 ended the 50-year grip of the Ejercito-Estrada clan over San Juan.

Among the officials proclaimed with Zamora include basketball star James Yap who won as 1st District councilor.
