Metro Manila, Philippines - The Partido ng Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) formally adopted Sen. Imee Marcos and outgoing Rep. Camille Villar to complete its senatorial slate, citing Vice President Sara Duterte’s personal endorsement and the “need for more allies” to protect her from impeachment.

Two days before the midterm polls, the party shared a resolution welcoming the presidential sister and the Las Piñas representative. It said that “there is a need for more allies to protect the vice president against impeachment.”

The PDP instructed all members to “extend their full support” to Marcos and Villar.

The party said it aligns itself with leaders “who demonstrate a dedication to addressing the needs and aspirations of the Filipino people through legislative advocacy and policy initiatives consistent with the party’s objectives.”

The vice president earlier endorsed Marcos and Villar, along with 10 PDP candidates.

To recall, Marcos withdrew from the Alyansa Para sa Bago Pilipinas, the slate endorsed by her brother President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

This came days after the presidential sister initiated and led the Senate panel investigating the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte following the warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.

Meanwhile, Villar has been snubbing Alyansa rallies in the last few weeks leading into the elections. This follows her endorsement from the vice president.

The new senators elected in the May 12 elections will be expected to face the vice president’s impeachment trial that is set to begin in late July.

The House of Representatives voted to oust Duterte for her office’s alleged questionable spending and for issuing a kill threat against the First Couple and Speaker Martin Romualdez.
