DOTr orders suspension of bus line in fatal SCTEX crash
Metro Manila, Philippines - Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to immediately suspend Solid North Bus, following the fatal crash on Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) on Thursday afternoon, May 1.
The Philippine Red Cross said at least eight people were killed, while 28 others were injured. The crash involved three sports utility vehicles, a container truck, and a Solid North bus.
In an interview with radio station DZBB, the Tarlac City police said the death toll has climbed to 12.
In a statement, NLEX Corp., which operates the SCTEX, said the collision happened at the northbound portion heading to Tarlac.
The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident. All possible assistance is being given to the affected motorists,” the company said.
Meanwhile, the PRC said local disaster management officers are removing victims pinned inside the vehicles.
