UAAP: UP hands NU Lady Bulldogs first loss
Metro Manila, Philippines - The University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons stunned the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs in a comeback victory, 26-24, 23-25, 17-25, 25-23, 15-12, in the second round of UAAP Season 87 on Wednesday, March 26, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Niña Ytang posted a career-high 30 points for the Fighting Maroons.
Irah Jaboneta, Bienne Bansil, and Kianne Olango each contributed 10 points for UP as the Diliman-based squad climbed to fifth place with a 4-5 win-loss record.
This was the Fighting Maroons' first win against the Lady Bulldogs since the second round of Season 80 back in 2018.
Bella Belen led NU with 21 points, while Alyssa Solomon finished with 19 points.
With the Lady Bulldogs suffering their first setback in nine outings, there will be a Final Four in the women's volleyball tournament.
UP will next battle the University of the East Lady Warriors on March 30, while NU tackles the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws on the same day at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
