DOTr chief asks officials to submit courtesy resignation
Metro Manila, Philippines - Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has asked senior officials to tender their courtesy resignation as a standard procedure.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, Feb. 25, Dizon said the memorandum only covers executives within the central office and does not include those in attached agencies and government-owned and -controlled corporations.
A memorandum released on Feb. 24 ordered all undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, and directors to tender their resignation until Wednesday, Feb. 26.
“It’s just a simple gesture of good will and good faith to the newly appointed leadership which will allow the newly appointed leadership to find the best personnel to do the jobs that need to be done,” Dizon said.
He said he already submitted seven names to lead the agency’s major sectors, subject to the president’s approval.
In a chance interview, the DOTr chief said the roster is composed of former transport officials as well as a new pool of potential leaders.
“Iba iba. Meron mga abogado, meron galing sa private sector,” he said when asked to describe the names he endorsed.
The memorandum stated that officials shall continue to report for work until the courtesy resignations are resolved.
Dizon took oath on Feb. 21, replacing Jaime Bautista who quit due to health concerns.
