UAAP: Erolon hits game-winning trey as Adamson frustrates skidding UST in OT
Metro Manila, Philippines - Matt Erolon knocked down the game-winning three-pointer as the Adamson University escaped the struggling University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in overtime, 97-96, on Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the second round of the UAAP Season 88 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Erolon buried the clutch trey at the dying seconds of the extra period to finish with nine points.
The Soaring Falcons had to overcome an eight-point deficit in the last 30 seconds of the fourth quarter, highlighted by a crucial three-pointer from Matthew Montebon who sent the game into overtime.
Ray Allen Torres had a game-high 20 points, while Montebon contributed 19 points for the streaking Adamson.
Cedrick Manzano also tallied with 19 points for the Soaring Falcons.
Adamson and the Growling Tigers are tied in fourth place with an identical 5-4 win-loss record.
Collins Akowe delivered another double-double performance for UST with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
The Soaring Falcons will next tackle the Far Eastern University Tamaraws on Nov. 2 at the MOA Arena, while UST will try to end its three-game losing skid against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on Nov. 5 at the same venue.
