Filipinos celebrate Carlos Yulo for historic Olympic feat
Metro Manila Philippines – Filipinos celebrated the historic win of gymnast Carlos Yulo and his double gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, who brought home the country’s first Olympic gold, congratulated Yulo.
“Ipinagmamalaki kita hindi lang sa mga medalya mo kundi dahil sa hirap na pinagdaanan mo para makamit ang tagumpay para sa sarili at higit pang lalo, para sa bayan,” Diaz wrote in an Instagram post.
[Translation: I’m proud of you not just for your medals, but for the hardships you endured to achieve success for yourself and, even more importantly, for our country]
Boxing icon and former Senator Manny Pacquiao told Yulo to “keep pushing forward and inspiring others.”
Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena, who’s also gunning to bring home a medal at the Paris Olympics, celebrated Yulo’s impressive feat.
In an Instagram post, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said, “no words can express” the Filipino pride in the golden boy.
“Filipinos all over the world stood united, cheering and rooting for you,” said Marcos.
Incentives fit for an Olympic gold medalist await Yulo, including multi million-pesos in cash reward from the government, a house and lot, and an Olympic gold medal of valor from the Philippine Sports Commission.
Celebrities, brands praise Yulo
Celebrities also expressed praises to the Olympic winner.
Among them are TV host Vice Ganda, broadway star Lea Salonga, and Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee.
Local brands also joined the chorus of congratulations.
For McDonald’s, it means depicting Yulo’s triumphant stance seamlessly integrated with its iconic Golden Arches.
Jollibee also acknowledged Yulo for bringing pride and joy to the country.
Meanwhile, another popular food chain celebrated Yulo’s milestone by offering a lifetime free buffet.
