Lily Monteverde, PH film industry icon, dies at 85
Metro Manila, Philippines — Regal Entertainment founder Lily Monteverde, well-known as “Mother Lily,” has died, her family said in a statement through the production company.
Monteverde died in the early hours of Sunday, Aug. 4, at the age of 85. She would have celebrated her birthday on Aug. 19.
Her death followed days after the passing of her husband Leonardo, fondly called Father Remy.
“Mother Lily was surrounded by her children and grandchildren in her final hours,” the family said. “She was blessed with the chance to say goodbye to her closest friends and associates who bid her farewell yesterday before she left for that trip back home to the Divine Father.”
The veteran film producer was considered an icon in the Philippine film industry. Her studio, Regal Entertainment, released films such as “Shake, Rattle & Roll” and “Mano Po,” among others.
“Throughout her years she has not only been a mother to her children but also the 'Mother' to so many generations of Filipino filmmakers who have helped define what Philippine cinema is today,” the family said.
Mother Lily was “a true mother to artists and workers who had the chance to know her beyond the confines of work,” the family added.
The family said her wake and memorial service will start Monday, Aug. 5, at 3:30 p.m. until Aug. 9 at 38 Valencia Events Place Quezon City. Interment will be on Aug. 10 at The Heritage Park, Taguig.
