Metro Manila, Philippines – A film tackling abortion has secured a nomination at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards for the Best Youth Film.

Starring Maris Racal, ‘Sunshine’ follows the story of a gymnast who found out her pregnancy on the week of tryouts for the national team.

The Antoinette-Jadaone film will be competing against contenders from India, China, Australia, and New Zealand.

In a Facebook post, the movie’s production outfit Project 8 Projects celebrated their nomination.

‘You did it Sunshine,” it wrote.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Local screenings have yet to be scheduled.

The Asia Pacific Screen Awards will be held on November 30, 2024 in Australia.
