‘Sana all’: Pinoy celebrities meeting their idols in 2023

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 20) — Meeting your favorite artist in person is already a milestone for some, but getting noticed by them? It’s more than a super fan could ask for!

From TikToks to concerts, many Filipino celebrities had the chance to rub elbows with international artists this year.

CNN Philippines looks back at some of the celebrity interactions that made a buzz online.

1. Andrea Brillantes’ 'promposal' at Blackpink's concert

After being noticed by American singer-songwriter Ariana Grande in 2017, Andrea Brillantes also caught the attention of K-pop superstars Blackpink in March.

The quartet helped the 20-year-old actress in her prom proposal to her then boyfriend Ricci Rivero for ABS-CBN's Star Magic Ball. The basketball player said “yes” in front of more than 50,000 people at the Philippine Arena.

It was all worth it as the couple received the "Best Promposal Award" during the ball. But things did not end well between the two as they separated months after.

2. SB19 and the "Gento" craze

P-pop sensation SB19 took the world by storm when their single "Gento" became a popular dance craze after K-pop idols joined the trend.

"Gento," which is part of their second extended play "PAGTATAG!," landed at no. 8 in the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart in June.

SB19 teamed up with Ateez and &Team as they danced together to "Gento."

3. JK Labajo invited to perform with Lukas Graham

This was a good year for OPM singer JK Labajo -- from making history on Spotify charts, to being invited to perform at the concert of a Grammy-nominated band.

It all started when Labajo commented on one of Lukas Graham's TikTok posts while they were performing the hit song "Love Someone," saying he was excited to watch their concert in October.

The band later replied and asked the "Ere" singer to perform with them.

During the Danish pop band's concert, Labajo and the group had a duet of each other's hit songs.

4. Kristel Fulgar's hosting gig at Seo In Guk's fan meeting

Former child actress Kristel Fulgar has always been fascinated with Korean culture as shown in her vlogs.

Fulgar was supposed to host a fan meeting of South Korean actor Seo In Guk last August, whom she is a huge fan of. But she was replaced at the last minute after the Korean technical director was not satisfied with her hosting during the rehearsals.

Despite the unfortunate scenario, Fulgar still had the chance to personally meet and talk with the actor backstage.

5. Ice Seguerra's opening act for Alanis Morisette's concert

Ice Seguerra had the opportunity to open for 90s icon Alanis Morisette's concert last August.

An emotional Seguerra was able to personally thank his "hero" backstage. On the other hand, Morisette praised the former for his talent as they shared a photo together.

6. Sharon Cuneta is one lucky Shawol

Megastar Sharon Cuneta is proof that anyone can listen to K-pop regardless of their age.

Cuneta is one proud Shawol, or a fan of K-pop group SHINee. So when the group's main dancer Taemin performed at a K-pop concert last October, the singer-actress was not able to contain her excitement.

The two had a brief meeting backstage which Cuneta shared on social media.

7. Brian Puspos dances with BTS' Jungkook

Jungkook of K-pop supergroup BTS covered a choreography by Filipino-American dancer Brian Puspos in 2016.

Seven years later, the two shared the stage together as the K-pop idol performed his single “Seven” during Good Morning America’s summer concert series.

Puspos was also featured in Jungkook’s music video for “Standing Next to You.”

8. Enhypen jams to Lola Amour's "Raining in Manila"

OPM band Lola Amour is on the rise as their single “Raining in Manila” has become one of the trending songs this year.

Thanks to Filipino K-pop fans, boy group Enhypen discovered the viral song as some of the members were seen listening and vibing to it.

Of course, Lola Amour was flattered by the warm reception by the K-pop idols.

9. Denise Julia discovers Aespa's Giselle listening to her single

How does it feel to have your K-pop bias listening to your song? You ask Denise Julia.

The up-and-coming Filipino pop singer couldn’t believe that Giselle, her favorite among the members of K-pop girl group Aespa, was listening to her song “B.A.D."

The Korean-Japanese idol also later did a dance cover to Denise Julia’s single.

10. Sarah Geronimo wows Tyla

"Water" by South African singer Tyla was one of the hottest songs released this year.

Popstar royalty Sarah Geronimo performed the song in the Sunday musical-variety show "ASAP" and she did not disappoint as expected.

Tyla couldn't believe that her song would be performed overseas along with a huge production.

"It's so crazy seeing people perform my song with huge productions, costumes, choreo etc. etc...what the heck," she said on X, formerly Twitter.
