Cheaper airfares in February as fuel surcharge drops
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 16) – Expect cheaper airfares in February as the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) imposed lower fuel surcharge rates.
In its latest advisory, CAB dropped the fuel surcharge rate from Level 6 to Level 5 covering Feb. 1-29.
Depending on distance, fuel surcharge for domestic flights will range between ₱151 and ₱542 for each passenger, down from ₱185 to ₱665 under Level 6.
For international flights, the fuel surcharge will drop to ₱498.03 to ₱3,703.11 per passenger, from Level 6's ₱610.37 to ₱4,538.40 rates.
CAB said airlines that want to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the period must file an application on or before the effectivity period.
For the fuel surcharge to be collected, the agency added that the applicable conversion rate for February is US $1 = ₱55.64.
Philippine air carriers welcomed the advisory.
“While aviation fuel prices remain volatile, the adjustment in fuel surcharge cost comes in very timely with many Philippine festivals happening from its period of implementation,” said AirAsia spokesperson Steve Dailisan in a statement.
“We will faithfully comply with the lower fuel surcharge which will take effect next month. We appreciate our passengers’ loyalty and support through the years,” said Philippine Airlines spokesperson Cielo Villaluna in a text message to CNN Philippines.
