Mandaue City LGU taps Daikin for sustainability expertise
Mandaue City, Cebu (CNN Philippines) — The Mandaue City Government has signed an agreement with Daikin Airconditioning Philippines to share their expertise on sustainability efforts of the local government unit (LGU).
This is in line with the LGU’s Green Building Ordinance which adapts the BERDE program developed by the Philippine Green Building Council. This ordinance has allowed the city to standardize the built environment in their area of responsibility, making it a better place to live in and at the same time promoting Mandaue City as a good potential investment location.

Recognizing the progressive thinking and potential growth in Mandaue City, Daikin Philippines established a partnership with the city office to support its Green Building Ordinance. An advocate of energy efficiency, Daikin is helping increase the awareness of the residents of Mandaue of the strategies, values, and benefits of sustainability.
Daikin is providing education efforts for its residents and professionals in the area, covering the latest trends and technologies in air conditioning, ventilation, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and environmental protection. Daikin is also teaching how these may strengthen the city’s urban development plan.
Last September, Mandaue City officials and representatives of Daikin Philippines attended the Building Green Conference 2023 in Modala Resort in Bohol with the theme: Pursuing Public-Private Cooperation in Net Zero through Green Building. As fellow promoters of green buildings and energy efficiency, these two organizations saw the opportunity and need to expand this information and knowledge to the constituents of Mandaue, expanding reach to those without any engineering background.
Gracing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony were Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and leaders from the Mandaue LGU. The mayor and his team were also given a first-hand tour of Daikin’s Technology and Innovation Center (TIC), located in Daikin’s Yodogawa Manufacturing Plant complex, in Settsu City, Osaka, Japan.
