'Chapter closed': Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla call it quits after 11-year relationship
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 30) — Celebrity couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla have broken up after over a decade of being together.
The two on Thursday confirmed their status following recent speculations on their relationship.
Bernardo said it is already "chapter closed” for her and Padilla.
"What Deej and I had was real. It was never for show. We were together not because of the cameras, not because of the fans, not because of the money that comes with a successful love team," she said in an Instagram post along with a photo of them.
"We were genuinely in love. We grew up together, dreamed together, and saw many of those dreams become a reality—still together."
But the actress admitted that they have been "drifting apart" for a while now despite trying their best to work things out in their 11-year relationship.
"These past few months have been tough, but thank you for giving us the time we need to process the pain and finally face the elephant in the room," Bernardo added. "Our love story began with respect and ended with respect."
Meanwhile, Padilla thanked his former longtime partner for all the memories they shared.
"Thank you for dancing with me during my highs and thank you for singing with me during my lows," he said on Instagram as he also shared their photo together.
"Our lives may drift away, but our love will still ride that tide," Padilla added.
Bernardo and Padilla first became on-screen partners in the 2011 television series "Growing Up."
After being a love team for a while, the two finally confirmed their relationship in 2018.
The couple's last project together was the 2022 television series "2 Good 2 Be True".
Rumors of break up sparked after eagle-eyed netizens noted that some of Bernardo's friends unfollowed Padilla on Instagram.
Further, both Bernardo and Padilla asked their fans for understanding about their situation. Nonetheless, the two also thanked everyone who supported them.
"Deej and I will continue to support each other as we try to heal and move forward from this,” said Bernardo. "We will continue to love you and make you proud, but we hope you understand that this is something we really need."
"Kathniels, una sa lahat, maraming salamat sa pag mamahal ninyo. Maraming salamat sa napaka gandang pinag samahan natin," said Padilla. "This is beyond show business. Pamilya kayo at mga kaibigan. Sabay natin yakapin ang bagong kinabukasan."
