The March 2015 cover of Esquire Philippines was a rare glimpse into the mind of the then Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Erwin Romulo, the magazine’s then editor-in-chief, wanted the image, photographed by Jason Quibilan, to evoke something out of Marlon Brando’s Col. Kurtz from "Apocalypse Now."
