Mikey Williams agrees in principle to play for Strong Group in Dubai tilt

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 8) — Mikey Williams will be playing for the stacked Philippine team Strong Group bound for the upcoming Dubai International Basketball Championship.

According to a team official, the high-scoring guard has agreed in principle to suit up for the national side bannered by former NBA players Dwight Howard, Andre Roberson, ex-Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player Andray Blatche, former PBA import McKenzie Moore, alongside a slew of collegiate standouts led by La Salle’s Kevin Quiambao.

Williams has not seen hardcourt action for almost a year, at least in local competition, after his negotiations for a new deal with the TNT Tropang Giga fell through and his contract was terminated.

While the Tropang Giga holds Williams’ rights in the PBA, the 32-year-old can play anywhere as long as it is a non-FIBA sanctioned event.

Strong Group has already started its training for the Dubai tournament which is slated to run from Jan. 19 to 28.
