Metro Manila, Philippines – Nearly eight in 10 adult Filipinos believe Vice President Sara Duterte should personally testify in her impeachment trial to answer the allegations against her, a non-commissioned Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed.

The Sept. 21-27 survey found that 78% considered it important for Duterte to testify, including 59% who said it was definitely important and 19% who said it was somewhat important.

Only 15% said her personal testimony was not important, while 8% were undecided.

The survey also found that 51% agreed that the Senate’s decision should be accepted whether Duterte is acquitted or convicted, while 26% disagreed. Another 24% were undecided.

The findings came before the prosecution dropped three of the four articles against Duterte on Oct. 13, leaving only the allegation of unexplained wealth for trial.

SWS interviewed 1,500 adults nationwide, with a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.
