Metro Manila, Philippines – Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Clarita Carlos has filed a cyber libel complaint with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Rear Admiral Jay Tarriela and Philippine Military Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michael Logico for alleged malicious posts online.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag said Carlos was at the agency on Friday, Oct. 23. “She actually filed a complaint dun sa cyber libel… Just the same, we also entertained her,” he said.
Matibag said the agency will notify Tarriela and Logico through formal letters.
“Actually, ‘yun naman yung discussion namin kay professor Carlos, na we will inform them of your complaints so they can respond properly also,” he added.
Tarriela said he will issue a comment once given notice.
“What I can say is that the public has been fully aware of what former Professor Clarita Carlos has said and posted on social media recently. I will leave it to our countrymen to judge for themselves,” he added.
Carlos was previously quoted as saying, “I want to tell him to shut the f*ck up, Tarriela. Get a duct tape and cover your mouth with that duct tape,” in relation to the official’s back and forth with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan, who said China may easily win against the Philippines if it uses “full force.” Carlos was the Marcos administration’s first NSA for six months.
Logico is facing the same cyber libel complaint for commenting that he previously walked out of a class taught by Carlos on a report of her supposedly satirical post that read: “Boycott made in China? Eh yang briefs and panties mo galing dun! Paano na?”
[Translation: Boycott made in China? Eh, your briefs and panties came from there! How is that?]
