PH embassy in Rome cautions Filipinos for Oct. 24 protests

Metro Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Embassy in Rome advised Filipinos in Italy to exercise heightened caution in the middle of demonstrations across parts of the country.

In an advisory issued Thursday, Oct. 22, the embassy warned of further demonstrations, particularly in Rome, Milan, Florence, Turin, Bologna, Padua, Bari, and Genoa, with multiple public marches also anticipated in parts of the capital.

“While many demonstrations may remain peaceful, recent protests in some Italian cities have resulted in clashes with police, property damage, looting, and other disturbances,” it said.

It strongly encouraged Filipinos to monitor local news and official announcements from Italian authorities, avoid unnecessary travel and places of large gatherings, and secure important identification documents and emergency contact details.

The Philippine Embassy in Rome and the Philippine Consulate General in Milan said they continue to monitor developments and issue further advisories, calling on Filipinos to remain calm, informed, and prioritize their personal safety and that of their families.

Since last week, demonstrations have intensified in Europe over unresolved public grievances against governments, including the high cost of living, expensive housing, and poor conditions in schools and universities.
