Metro Manila, Philippines – The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) has formed a team of specialists to conduct a medical examination and diagnostic tests on Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, now under a hospital arrest over a plunder case.
The former House speaker was transferred from Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City to PGH in Manila at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, as ordered by the Sandiganbayan Third Division for an independent medical evaluation.
In a statement, the government hospital said specialists will conduct examinations and diagnostic tests and prepare a comprehensive medical report to the anti-graft court.
This would help determine whether Romualdez needs to remain confined in a hospital.
Romualdez is facing a ₱7.4-billion plunder case filed by the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with alleged irregularities in government flood control projects.
The cousin of the president has maintained his innocence.
