September is bringing plenty of exciting new titles to the big and small screens, from long-awaited sequels and star-studded dramas to fantastical adventures and a return to the world of horror. Here are our top screen picks for September:
1. Practical Magic 2
It’s been almost three decades since we last spent time with the magical Owens sisters, but this year, Sally and Gillian are back to face a new family crisis. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reunite for a sequel set 25 years after the original. When Sally’s daughter develops some dark magical abilities, the Owens women must confront the source of their magic to save the next generation

2. Honor thy Mother
A collaboration between ABS-CBN and GMA, Honor thy Mother brings together the megastar Sharon Cuneta and one of the country’s fastest-rising stars, Barbie Forteza in a fiery family drama that could be your next obsession. The series follows a powerful CEO (Cuneta) who is forced to work together with her estranged daughter (Forteza), compelling both women to face long-buried family secrets.

3. Forgotten Island
DreamWorks Animation’s new film, co-directed by Joel Crawford and Filipino-American filmmaker Januel Mercado, is putting Filipino mythology, culture, and talent on a global stage in a way rarely seen in a major Hollywood animated film. Starring a cast of Filipino and Filipino-American actors such as Liza Soberano, H.E.R., and Lea Salonga, Forgotten Island follows two childhood friends, Jo and Raissa, who are transported through a portal to the fantastical world of Nakali, the forgotten island where memories gradually fade the longer one remains.

4. American Horror Story: 13
The landmark thirteenth season of the popular horror anthology series American Horror Story looks to be its biggest one yet. Bringing back franchise favorites Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, and more, American Horror Story: 13 will revisit beloved characters from seasons past, including the witches from Coven, the killer clown from Freak Show, and even the haunting ghosts of Season 1’s Murder House. Start spooky season early with this celebratory season.

5. Digger
Tom Cruise plays the most powerful man in the world in Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s latest film. In Digger, Cruise stars as Digger Rockwell, a wealthy oil tycoon who accidentally unleashes a catastrophic global disaster and must race to prove that he is humanity’s savior before everything is destroyed. The dark comedy also stars John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, and Jesse Plemons.

The Rest:
This is just a small sample of what’s to come this month. September is packed with films and TV shows worth watching. In theaters, Zach Cregger (Weapons) is back with his take on Resident Evil, out on September 16, while Anne Hathaway appears in her fifth film of the year with the film adaptation of the hit novel Verity on September 30. Philippine cinema is alive and well, too, as Maricel Soriano and Bela Padilla star in the drama Life After You, out on September 9, while Elijah Canlas stars in historical film Edjop, out on September 16.
Other films out this September include Fall 2 (September 9), It Ends (September 9), and Brad Pitt’s Heart of the Beast (September 19).
A couple of big concert films are also making their way to cinemas. On September 2, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour premieres, while Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger comes out on September 11.
Over on TV and streaming, a new season of The Gentlemen drops on Netflix September 3, and a new season of Monster, this time about female killer Lizzie Borden, premieres on the platform September 17. Over on Apple TV, meta comedy Brothers starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as fictional versions of themselves premieres September 23, while reality TV fans will be excited to watch a brand new season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City out on Hayu September 16.
From magical family sagas and homegrown stories to fantastical adventures and chilling horror, September has something for every film and TV fan.
