Metro Manila, Philippines — Filipino tennis star Alex Eala is set to return to the country for a homecoming celebration at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan on Dec. 8, with organizers eyeing a potential world attendance record for a live tennis match.
Tatler Philippines on Friday, Aug. 28, announced “Alex Eala Live: Game. Set. Celebrate,” a full-day event that will bring Eala back to the country after a breakthrough 2026 season on the international tennis circuit.
The event will culminate in a marquee singles match between Eala and Indonesian tennis star Janice Tjen.
Tatler Group CEO and Chairman Michel Lamunière said Eala and Tjen represent the growing pool of young tennis talent in Southeast Asia.
“I think they were the beautiful manifestation of how the region is resting fantastic talent in the tennis scene.”
Lamunière said the event will be more than just a tennis match, describing it as a celebration of Filipino achievement.
“This is much more than a tennis match. It is a celebration of Filipino pride, sporting excellence, culture, and the next generation.”
Philippine Arena targets tennis attendance record
The Philippine Arena, which can accommodate more than 50,000 spectators, will serve as the venue for Eala’s homecoming.
Organizers said the venue’s capacity could give the event a chance to surpass the current global attendance record for a live tennis match.
The record stands at 51,954 spectators, set during the 2020 Match in Africa exhibition between tennis legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in Cape Town, South Africa.
Tatler Philippines Managing Director Irene Francisco said the venue was selected partly because it can accommodate significantly more spectators than other arenas in the country.
Francisco also added that the organizers are expecting strong interest from Filipino fans who have followed Eala’s rise on the international stage.
“I think everyone has been watching Alex on television, following her on the news.”
With the Philippine Arena’s size, she said organizers will work to make the journey to and from the venue convenient for spectators.
“We will try to ensure that the trip going to the arena and back is as painless.”
A full-day homecoming
Beyond Eala’s headline match, the event will feature youth tennis players, development clinics, fan experiences, live musical performances, and a celebrity mixed-doubles exhibition match featuring prominent Philippine personalities.
The event is also positioned as a celebration of the next generation of Filipino tennis players and the country’s growing presence in the sport.
Eala’s homecoming follows a historic 2026 season highlighted by her first WTA 500 title in Washington and a breakthrough campaign at Wimbledon.
“Alex Eala Live: Game. Set. Celebrate” will be held on Dec. 8 at the Philippine Arena in Ciudad de Victoria, Bulacan.
Ticket prices range from ₱600 to ₱25,000, with general ticket sales beginning Sept. 14 at 12 p.m. Pre-sale registration is open until Sept. 6 through TicketWorld.
