Metro Manila, Philippines – Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala has reached a new career-high in the WTA rankings ahead of the U.S. Open, the last grand slam of the year.

The 21-year-old climbed two spots to world No. 18 following the conclusion of the Cincinnati Open, a WTA 1000 tournament.

Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, and Coco Gauff retained their spots on top of the rankings, while Mirra Andreeva rose one place to round out the top five.

Eala is coming off a third-round stint in Cincinnati, where she lost to American Amanda Anisimova in three sets.

Eala will team up with world No. 4 Félix Auger-Aliassime of Canada in the U.S. Open mixed doubles. They will battle the tandem of Elina Svitolina and Gaël Monfils in the first round on Aug. 25.

Eala will be making her second appearance at the U.S. Open singles main draw, which will begin on Aug. 30.
