Metro Manila, Philippines – Forty portable power generators donated by a Philippine private company have arrived in Ukraine to provide backup electricity to civilian facilities and communities affected by continuing Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the Philippines said Thursday, Aug. 13, the 40 Daiden generators arrived at a hub of Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy on Aug. 12. Each generator has a capacity of six kilowatts.
The humanitarian initiative followed a Feb. 11 meeting between Ukrainian Ambassador to the Philippines Yuliia Fediv and Senator Erwin Tulfo.
The generators were supplied by Highball Traders Inc. and will be used exclusively for civilian purposes, including providing backup electricity to socially important facilities and maintaining essential services in affected communities, the embassy said.
The equipment was transported from the Philippines to the Port of Gdansk in Poland before then into Ukraine through the European Union’s rescEU Donations Scheme under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
Poland’s Governmental Strategic Reserves Agency also assisted in transporting the equipment.
“For us, this assistance is much more than 40 generators. It is a tangible expression of the solidarity of the people of the Philippines with the people of Ukraine,” the embassy said.
The generators arrived as Ukraine continues to deal with damage to its power infrastructure from Russian attacks.
The Ukrainian embassy said the Philippine assistance would help strengthen the energy resilience of civilian communities and ensure the continuity of essential services.
The Philippines has repeatedly supported Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity in international forums since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
