Palace warns public against joining ‘cults,’ ‘forces of darkness’

Metro Manila, Philippines –  Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro warned the public against joining what she described as “cults” and the “forces of darkness, urging Filipinos not to associate with groups that wish harm on others.

In a press briefing on Monday, June 29, Castro issued the message during the end of her regular briefing.

“Ang Bagong Pilipino ay hindi ipinagdarasal ang kamatayan ng kapwa. Ito ay gawain ng isang kulto, gawain ng kampon ng kasamaan. Huwag po kayong magpa-register sa ganiyang klaseng samahan,” Castro said.

[Translation: A New Filipino does not pray for the death of another person. That is the work of a cult, the work of the forces of darkness. Do not register or join that kind of group.]

Castro did not identify any particular group or organization she was referring to. The palace official previously slammed the statements made by Vice President Sara Duterte who recently said in jest that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.  is “masamang damo” and would not die easily.

The palace official said that the“masamang damo” remark best fit her family, arguing that the description better applies to former President Rodrigo Duterte.
