It’s Pride Month, and there’s no shortage of incredible stories, performances, and celebrations to enjoy all month long. From moving films and exciting drag spectacles to loud and proud concerts and live entertainment, these shows put LGBTQIA+ talent, creativity, and joy front and center.
Celebrate love, identity, and self-expression by adding these shows to your calendar. Here are five Pride shows you won’t want to miss this year.
- Queerdom
If you love showtunes and great singing, One Night Stand Cabaret is hosting Queerdom, a one-night-only cabaret where some of Philippine theater’s most talented queer artists will be performing titles from hit Broadway shows like Rent, Kinky Boots, and Dear Evan Hansen, as well as movie and TV musicals like The Greatest Showman and Smash. 12 Monkeys in Pasig will be hosting the event, taking place on June 16th. - RUNRIO Pride Run
The RUNRIO Pride Run celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community and the continuing fight for equality, tolerance, and acceptance, but it does so with sneakers, singlets, and a lot of rainbow energy. On race day, runners can expect drag performances, brand activations, and even a costume contest.
While the Davao leg has already finished as of this writing, the Manila leg taking place in Pasay and the Cebu leg in Cebu City will be on June 21st and June 28th respectively. Grab your rainbow singlets and run to collect a heart-shaped golden, glittery medal! - Kweencon
Kweencon is poised to be the ultimate Filipino drag show as it brings together some of the biggest names in drag, many of whom you might know from Drag Race Philippines and other drag competition shows. The list includes Drag Race Philippines winners Precious Paula Nicole, Brigiding, and Captivating Katkat, as well as fan favorites like Marina Summers, Vinas Deluxe, and Khianna. The show will be at the SM North EDSA Skydome on June 20th. - QCinema Pride Film Festival & FDCP’s Pelikulaya
Two major LGBTQIA+ film festivals are happening this month, giving audiences a chance to see queer stories from the Philippines and around the world.
First is Pelikulaya, the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ Pride film festival, which runs from June 5 to July 4 with screenings in Manila, Iloilo, Negros, and Davao. This year’s festival is led by the rerelease of Lino Brocka’s landmark film Macho Dancer.
Meanwhile, QCinema’s Pride Film Festival returns from June 24 to 26 at Gateway Mall 2, where it will screen a selection of queer films from Spain, Japan, Germany, South Korea, Australia, the United States, and the Philippines. - Fête de la Musique: Pride & Allies Stage
MEJO Eksena will be hosting Fête De La Musique’s Pride & Allies Stage taking place on June 27th in Diliman. This official section of the popular music festival brings together musicians, singers, bands, and other artists for a night filled with queer music and joy. Discover some new talent such as Asian Panganay, Henri Gimena, and the Fibonacci Sequins at this exciting event that is free to the public!
Of course, Pride Month is about much more than these entertaining shows. Across the country, marches, community gatherings, and other queer celebrations such as the Metro Manila Pride March and Quezon City’s annual #LoveL4ban event continue to bring all kinds of people together in the spirit of visibility, solidarity, and joy. However you choose to mark the occasion, we hope you have a safe, memorable, and enjoyable Pride Month!
