Marcos, Duterte kick off ‘Brigada Eskwela’ ahead of new school year

Metro Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte separately launched  on Tuesday, June 2, the nationwide volunteer program to prepare public schools for the upcoming school year.

Marcos joined Education Secretary Sonny Angara to lead the Brigada Eskwela at Kapitbahayan Elementary School in Navotas City.

The president inspected the newly installed security TV cameras and participated in a storytelling session for Grade 1 learners.

Other Cabinet members were with the president for the activity, namely, Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino for the partnership under the TUPAD (Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers) program, and Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian for the “Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program,” which aims to develop literacy skills of young students.

Meanwhile, Duterte led Brigada Eskwela at Diosdado P. Macapagal Elementary School in Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City.

The Office of the Vice President  earlier distributed cleaning and maintenance materials to San Vicente Elementary School in Barangay San Vicente and Pinyahan Elementary School in Barangay Pinyahan, both in Diliman, Quezon City. 

Brigada Eskwela was launched in 2003.
