Metro Manila, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation said it is contemplating filing a summons for Nancy Dela Rosa as it processes leads on her husband and fugitive Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
“We are about to send subpoenas to the personalities na may mga naging contact kay [who has been in contact with] Sen. Bato,” NBI Director Melvin Matibag said in a briefing on Friday, May 29.
Asked if this includes Dela Rosa’s wife, he said: “We are contemplating issuing a subpoena sakanya [to her].”
Dela Rosa is in hiding again presumably to evade a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court tied to his stint as police chief during the Duterte administration’s controversial anti-drug war.
Nancy previously pleaded with the government against arresting her husband, citing flaws in jurisdiction of the ICC in the country.
Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano earlier read a message from Nancy, saying, “I’d also like to ask for forgiveness for all the confusion and havoc it has created in the Senate. It is for this reason I am sure that Ronald made his ‘escape.’”
Under Senate protective custody, Dela Rosa fled the Senate grounds with Sen. Robin Padilla hours after a standoff between inhouse security and NBI officials.
