Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Abaya and Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Jose Honrado on Tuesday (September 8) did a walk-through of the grounds of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
The officials walked through the Departure Hall, departure and dignitaries’ lounges, and the arrival hall.
About a month and a half after an Australian passenger fell into a hole when floor tiles gave in at Terminal 2, Abaya said NAIA Terminal 1 is 99.9 percent ready to welcome the 21 leaders attending the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum meeting in Manila this November.

Honrado said the airport will be operational with no major disruptions during the arrival of the dignitaries. For security reasons, he did not disclose any further details of security preparations — but he assured passengers they would not be greatly inconvenienced.
Some P1.3 billion were spent for the MIAA upgrade which Hondrao insists was not because of APEC, but just regular maintenance since the building has not been renovated since it was built.
He said Terminal 1 will be ready one month before the APEC meeting in Manila.
MIAA personnel joined Abaya in a closed door meeting to further discuss technical preparations the November event.
