Malacañan probes special treatment for Reyes brothers

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The government is now looking into claims that murder suspects Joel and Mario Reyes are getting special treatment in jail.

Presidential Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said on Monday (September 28) that the matter is under investigation by both the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Puerto Princesa jail warden Senior Inspector Don Paredes has already been relieved for allowing the brothers to hold a media interview on Friday.

Interior secretary Mel Sarmiento said he will name a replacement soon. While according to Coloma, appropriate charges will be filed if necessary.

The Reyes brothers are detained at the Puerto Princesa city jail for allegedly masterminding the murder of journalist Gerry Ortega in 2011.
