Smart Girls’ rule Emmys red carpet

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Every award show red carpet is bombarded with the golden question, “Who are you wearing?” Award-winning comedian Amy Poehler’s organization, Smart Girls, aimed to change that by asking more meaningful and compelling questions on the red carpet.

During the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday (September 21, PHT), huge personalities answered questions sent by netizens not typically asked during the red carpet walk — including those from singer Britney Spears author Jodi Picoult, anchor Katie Couric, Scandal actress Katie Lowes, and director-producer Shonda Rhimes.

Orange Is The New Black creator Jenji Kohan answered a question from Katie Couric on how important it is that female TV characters be likeable.

“Personally I don’t think it is… People are not always likeable and that’s okay,” Kohan said.

One netizen asked a meaningful question, “Tell me about a time you were faced with insurmountable odds, yet persevered to overcome.”

Jane The Virgin actress Gina Rodriguez cited that the entertainment industry looks at beauty in a very specific way and she desired to change it and “worked” it.

Even the guys on the red carpet responded to some of the questions.

Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder director-producer Shonda Rhimes wanted to know the best piece of career advice the celebrities have heard and TV host Jimmy Fallon couldn’t emphasize his answer more.

“Write. Write, write, write!” Fallon said.

Personalities, netizens give thumbs up on movement

The movement received a flurry of astounding response from netizens on Twitter, not to mention a shoutout and a question from former U.S. First Lady and now presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
