Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) – Tropical Storm Egay has maintained its strength as it continued to move in a northwest direction on Friday (July 3), prompting the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to place Isabela and Cagayan provinces under Storm Signal No. 1.
According to PAGASA’s latest severe weather bulletin, Egay’s center was last spotted around 4 a.m. at 330 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, with maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
The tropical storm was forecast to move northwest at 13 kph and is expected to be 285 km east-northeast of Casiguran, Aurora by Saturday morning (July 4).
Based on Egay’s present strength and storm track, PAGASA also released the following forecast positions for the next five days:
48 hour (Sunday morning): 160 km northeast of Aparri, Cagayan
72 hour (Monday morning): 50 km north of Itbayat, Batanes
96 hour (Tuesday morning): 240 km north of Itbayat, Batanes
120 hour (Wednesday morning): 435 km north-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes
The state weather bureau also estimated Egay’s rainfall amount to be from moderate to heavy within the 400 km diameter.
Because of this, fisher folk are advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, seaboards of Southern Luzon, and Visayas and the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao.
