Davao City (CNN Philippines) — Former Davao del Sur Gov. Douglas Ra Cagas, who is charged with the murder of newsman Nestor Bedolido, plans to file his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the same post.
Cagas, who’s now detained at the Digos City Provincial Jail since his surrender in October 2014, will use a proxy to file his COC, according to his lawyer Marc Fernandez.
Fernandez said they could not obtain a permit that would allow him to personally file the document before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Cagas surrendered to the authorities October 20 last year, hours before a warrant of arrest against him was issued by the court for the murder of Bedolido.
Aside from Cagas, three others were charged for murder, in June 2010, of Bedolido.
