Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 8) — Newly-appointed Migrant Workers officer-in-charge Hans Leo Cacdac said he will work on strengthening the services and programs of the department for overseas Filipino workers (OFW) which were began by late Secretary Susan “Toots” Ople.
“It boils down to providing more welfare and protection, better systems in terms of welfare, repatriation, and reintegration of OFWs,” Cacdac also told CNN Philippines’ The Source on Friday.
He said this will include the filing of legal cases for OFWs who were abused and were victims of contract violations.
As initially planned by Ople, the department will also focus on providing assistance to migrant workers who are cancer patients, he added. The DMW has an available action fund for this, which is also being used to pay hospital bills of OFWs without insurance coverage, Cacdac noted.
