Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 6) — Germany advanced to the semifinals of the 2023 FIBA World Cup after escaping Latvia, 81-79, Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Franz Wagner paved the way for Germany with 16 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
Germany nearly lost a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter with Davis Bertans’ game-winning three-pointer going wide in the final possession of the match for Latvia.
It was a cold shooting night for Dennis Schroder who only scored nine points on 4-of-18 from the field along with four assists.
Latvia stayed within striking distance as its shots were falling when it needed the most.
But Germany had a response to every rally Latvia tried to unleash, especially in the final frame.
Bertans had 20 points and two rebounds, while Rolands Smits contributed 14 points for Latvia as they ended their Cinderella run in the tournament.
